Bids opened for Henry County Events Center

The Henry County Commissioners Thursday opened bids for the events center to be located at the Henry County Fairgrounds.

Five bids were submitted for the project, which has an estimate of $5.65 million, and four of the five were below the estimate.

The bids included: $4,806,420, A.A. Boos & Sons, Inc., Oregon; $4,984,884, INdustrial Power Systems, Rossford; $4,998,700, Midwest Community, Holland; $5,090,099, Rupp Rosebrock, Inc., Liberty Center, and $6,535,000, Tuttle Construction, Inc., Lima.

The bid award was tabled until Tuesday.

The building will include approximately 43,000 square feet of open space that can be utilized year-round for gatherings such as livestock shows, trade expos and educational events, plus tournaments, weddings and other community events. During the county fair, the event center is intended to showcase 4-H livestock for dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, sheep and goats and the show arena.

Earlier this year, members of the Henry County Ag Improvement Association and Henry County Ag Society (fair board) met with the commissioners to ask for financial assistance with the project, and the county later assumed the project. At that time, the goal was for the county commissioners to take out a loan for the construction to be completed, and the load would be paid back by the ag improvement association.

The overall cost of the project is anticipated to be approximately $7.6 million, with the funds raised by the association already spent with the purchase of the steel building itself and animal pens.

The project has received $1 million in funding through the state capital budget and the county is pursuing a $4 million grant for the 2024 Congressional Direct Spending to go toward the project. However, a decision would not be made until next year on that funding.

In other matters, the commissioners held the final public hearing for proposed tire rate changes at the landfill. Continued, in article link below.
